The Power of Progression: Why and How We're Upping the Ante at Welly

When it comes to fitness, progression isn't just a buzzword—it's the key to continuous improvement and lasting results. Whether you're new to working out or a seasoned athlete, gradually increasing the challenge of your workouts helps build strength, improve endurance, and prevent plateaus.

Why Is Progression Important?

  1. Builds Strength Efficiently: Your muscles adapt to the stress you put on them. Without progressive overload (increasing weight, reps, or intensity), your gains will stall.

  2. Boosts Metabolism: Heavier weights or harder moves demand more energy, helping you burn more calories even after your workout.

  3. Prevents Boredom: New challenges keep things fresh and engaging, making it easier to stay committed.

  4. Reduces Injury Risk: Gradually increasing difficulty allows your body to adapt safely, reducing the chance of strain or injury.

How We’re Progressing at Welly

Starting in March, we're implementing a structured progression plan designed to help you reach new heights in your fitness journey:

  • Week 1-4: 2 sets of 12 reps

  • Week 5-8: Gradual shift toward 3 sets with lower reps

  • Goal: By the end of April, we'll be aiming for 3 sets of 4 reps

This approach not only increases strength but also sharpens focus on proper form and controlled movements. To support this progression, we recommend online participants stock up on a range of weights. Having options will make it easier to challenge yourself appropriately.

Personal Goals Make It Real

Setting realistic, personalized goals is key. An example goal, start at using 3 and 5 lb weights in class. Final Goal: To be lifting 12.5 and 15 lbs by the end of April.

Let's Set Your Goals Together

Everyone gets one free consultation to discuss their fitness goals, or we can have a quick chat before or after class to fine-tune your plan. Let’s make sure your goals are both ambitious and achievable.
