Hayley - A Dedicated Early Morning Warrior
Meet Hayley, a longtime Welly Academy member who has been consistently showing up for our 3-morning-a-week online program since the very beginning—over two years ago! As a busy entrepreneur running her own interior design business, Hayley shares how early morning workouts have become an essential part of her routine and overall well-being.
Can you tell us a bit about your work as an interior designer and what you love most about it? I’ve been working as an interior designer for six years and running my own business, Viane Designs and Styling, for five years. I specialize in interior design, organizing, and paint selection for homes. What I love most is the creativity and the ability to help my clients feel more connected and comfortable in their spaces.
How do early morning workouts fit into your busy schedule, and what motivates you to get up for class? I love getting my workouts done first thing in the morning so I don’t have to worry about squeezing them in later. By 8 AM, it’s done and dusted! Plus, I can just roll out of bed, throw on workout clothes, and start—no need to head to a gym and be around people first thing in the morning (not my jam). Waking up early is still a challenge for me, but having a set routine makes it easier.
Have you noticed any changes in your productivity or focus at work since starting regular workouts? Absolutely! It has really helped with my mental clarity. Since I spend a lot of time at a desk, getting in movement and expending some energy before the workday starts makes a huge difference.
What’s your favorite exercise in class, and why do you love it? Deadlifts, weighted squats, and gorilla rows! They’re all challenging, but that’s what makes them fun.
How has your strength and fitness improved over time, and how does that impact your daily life? My strength has improved so much! When I first started, I could barely lift 5 lb weights throughout the workout, and now I’m lifting 15 lb weights—and still progressing! It’s been an amazing journey.
What’s your go-to mindset strategy when you’re feeling unmotivated to work out? Some days are harder than others, but I remind myself that movement is essential. If I don’t do the workout in the morning, I have to fit something in later, which feels more daunting—so I just get it done. But I also listen to my body. If I’m exhausted, I take a rest day and pick it up again tomorrow. Balance is key.
How does staying active support your love for the outdoors? My husband and I are pretty active, and staying strong helps us avoid stiffness or soreness after activities like hiking and skiing. I want to be able to keep hiking, skiing, and running as we get older, and regular exercise supports that goal.
What advice would you give to other busy professionals who think they don’t have time to work out? Carve out the time for yourself—it’s worth it. You are worth it. Exercise is not just about fitness; it’s a form of self-care and mental health care.
