The 6 Things Every Active Ager Should Be Training

Six Things Every Active Ager Should Be Working On
When people think about fitness, they often focus on weight loss or burning calories. While those goals can be important, they’re only part of the picture.
At Welly, we believe fitness should help you live better—not just look different.
As we get older, the goal shifts toward maintaining our independence, confidence, and ability to do the things we love—whether that’s gardening, hiking, travelling, lifting grandchildren, or simply getting up from the floor with ease.
That’s why every Welly class focuses on six essential components of healthy aging.
1. Cardiovascular Fitness
Your heart is a muscle too.
Every Welly class includes cardiovascular training set to fun, motivating music. Regular cardio supports heart and lung health, endurance, brain function, and overall energy.
Whether you’re walking, dancing, or exercising with us, regular movement helps you feel stronger and more energized.
2. Strength
Strength is the foundation of healthy aging.
Strong muscles make everyday activities easier—from carrying groceries and climbing stairs to lifting a suitcase or getting out of a chair.
Strength training also supports healthy bones, protects your joints, and helps maintain muscle and metabolism.
Pick your weights. Pick your intensity. Progress at your own pace.
3. Power
Power is often the missing piece in fitness programs.
Power is the ability to move with strength and speed. It helps you react quickly, climb stairs confidently, catch yourself if you trip, and stand up from a chair with ease.
We incorporate kettlebell training into our online and in-studio classes to safely develop power while also improving cardiovascular fitness.
4. Balance
Falls are one of the greatest health risks as we age, but balance can be improved at any stage of life.
Balance naturally begins to decline around age 30, but regular practice can help slow and improve that decline.
Balance exercises improve coordination, reaction time, stability, and confidence, helping you move more freely.
5. Core Strength
Your core is much more than your abdominal muscles.
A strong core supports your spine, improves posture, and allows your entire body to move more efficiently.
Every online and in-studio class includes standing core exercises, while our in-studio classes also incorporate mat-based core work for additional strength and stability.
6. Mobility & Stretching
Mobility is your ability to move well.
Healthy hips, shoulders, spine, and ankles allow you to reach, bend, rotate, and move without unnecessary stiffness.
Every Welly session includes mobility work throughout the class and stretching at the end to help movement feel comfortable and enjoyable.
Fitness That Prepares You for Life
At Welly, our goal isn’t simply to give you a good workout. It’s to help you feel stronger, move better, build confidence, and keep doing the things you love.
Whether you’re returning to exercise, maintaining an active lifestyle, or looking for a welcoming community, we’d love to have you join us.
