Meet Anne: Strong, Spirited & Addicted to Feeling Good

“I get an inkling of jubilation and well-being in every class. I feel PUMPED and STRONG.”

Anne has been rocking group fitness for over 20 years—but when she landed at Welly’s Move & Groove after a friend’s referral, something clicked.

“I’m addicted to the sense of purpose and well-being I get from Tanja’s classes,” she says. “I absolutely need them—physically, mentally, emotionally.”

Fitness runs in her family. Anne’s mom was a pioneer, working with a personal trainer and staying strong well into her 90s. Inspired by that legacy, Anne prefers the energy and affordability of group classes, where fun and fitness go hand-in-hand.

She recently added Barre to her weekly lineup—and never looked back. “I tried it once and I was hooked. It wakes up the small muscles, demands focus, and reminds me of my very brief ballet days. I’ve come a looong way, baaby!”

Barre + Move & Groove = Anne’s secret sauce for:

✅ Boosted energy

✅ Stress relief

✅ Improved strength, balance, and coordination

✅ Better posture and flexibility

✅ And a big dose of joy

“It spills into the rest of my life—gardening, biking, hiking, sailing. These classes keep me moving well everywhere.”

She loves seeing familiar faces and building connections: “I meet amazing people at Welly—and then see them all over Salt Spring! This community is positive, supportive, and full of life.”

Her advice to anyone on the fence about trying something new? “Trying something new—even if you flounder—is the key to aging well. Just TRY IT. YOU’LL LIKE IT.”

And when she’s not stretching at Barre or flowing through Move & Groove, you might find her pulling ivy in Mouat Park with fellow Welly regular Bob Mackie and the No Ivy League — a group that gathers twice a month to help protect native trees and reconnect with nature.

📅 Last Tuesday & First Saturday of each month 🕙 10 am – 12 pm 📍 Mouat Park 🧤 Just bring gloves and secateurs!

It’s therapeutic, satisfying, and sometimes even fun. And just like Anne’s favorite classes, it keeps her feeling strong and full of purpose—inside and out.
